Bruce Nickerson Watercolors

I grew up on the South Shore, and graduated from Mass College of Art with a degree in Industrial Design. The trade show industry has been my main occupation for the last 36 years.

Although I occasionally forayed into watercolors, it’s only in the last three years that I have really concentrated on painting. Watercolor painting can be extremely loose and fluid, sometimes very tight and controlled, or a blend of the two extremes. That is what I enjoy about the medium. One never knows which way it’s going to go in a painting. Each painting presents an opportunity to learn, to grow, and overcome challenges.

I favor natural themes for my paintings, mostly flowers and landscapes. Many of the flowers are from my own yard. I always carry a camera with me in case an interesting shot presents itself. Photos are a great reference source when composing a painting, and enable me to record scenes from a wide variety of places where it would be impractical to set up and easel.
